World Breastfeeding Week Celebration 2011

The BRC was excited to host a World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) celebration! WBW is held each year during the first week of August. This year the event included tables hosted by The Center for Parenting, Rhino Chiropractic Center, One Fit Mama, Maternal Wellness Center, and Janine McFadden of Mary Kay! The BRC parking lot was decorated beautifully! Valerie Stillman did an excellent job at creating balloon decorations!

Hot dogs, hamburgers and brats were cooked to perfection by Matt McPhelin, owner and chef of Maize Restaurant. Water ice from Rita’s Water Ice was dished out by volunteers to keep everyone cool on this humid day.

Educational sessions were offered by Sleepy Bug, The Center for Parenting, and two of the BRC’s board of directors, Curt Parnes, MD and Craig Barkan, MD facilitated the "Ask the Pediatrician" session.

Winners of the breastfeeding trivia games won Rita’s Water Ice coupons!!! And everyone enjoyed State Representative Josh Shapiro's visit!

The kids craft table was a big hit! Coloring sheets, macaroni necklaces and sidewalk chalk kept the little ones busy! Families were able to get questions answered about healthy diets by Registered Dietician, Rachelle Lessen.

Free gift bags were given which included plenty of great samples from milkmakers, Whole Foods, Motherlove, and Earth Mama Angel Baby. Three free raffle items were won which included an Ameda Purely Yours breastpump, a Hallmark photo album and stationary, and a Family Fun package!

A big thanks to all who volunteered their time and those who offered donations to make the event a success!

Each fall the BRC has its annual fundraiser. This is a time not only to raise money for this worthy cause, but to celebrate its success. The room was filled with the Board of Directors, BRC staff, clients of the BRC, friends, and family. A good time was had by all with great food and drink along with music and dancing.
