OUR STAFF

Colette M. Acker, BS, IBCLC: Director

Colette, a mother of three beautiful breastfed children, began her career in lactation as a volunteer counselor with the Nursing Mothers Advisory Council in 1993. Her interest soon became a passion, and Colette studied to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). As a lactation consultant in private practice, she found many mothers who could not afford her service and realized all women should have access to help if needed. Therefore, the dream of the BRC began and became a reality in 2003. Colette loves working with new moms and babies along with all the day to day tasks of keeping a nonprofit organization running smoothly.

Janice McPhelin, IBCLC: Director of Development

Janice McPhelin is the Director of Development. As is true of most BRC employees, Janice wears many hats. She is a Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and works with mothers at our center. In addition to her excellent clinical skills for resolving breastfeeding concerns, she is also experienced in grant writing. Since Janice joined us, the BRC has obtained significant grant funding, which allows us to keep our programs available.

Janice has a degree in Business Communications, and after nursing her two sons, Matthew and Liam, she found that her passion was for promoting breastfeeding and helping others to breastfeed well. She became certified as a counselor with Nursing Mothers Advisory Council and focused on her studies to qualify to sit for the board certification exam. After completing a clinical internship program at the BRC, she was officially board certified in 2008.

Nancy Osborne – Office Manager

When you call or come into the BRC, you’ll most likely be greeted by Nancy, the office manager. Nancy, who the BRC director describes as, “the glue that holds the BRC together” expertly manages all the tasks of the office. In her time at the BRC she has gained great knowledge in the area of breastpumps and other breastfeeding products. Amongst her many talents, she’s also a certified bra fitter!

Jen McClure, IBCLC – Group Meeting Coordinator

Another friendly face you might encounter at the BRC is Jen McClure. Jen works part-time as our class/support group meeting coordinator and helps out with the day to day details of running the office. She is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and assists mothers at Holy Redeemer Hospital for the BRC. Her love of breastfeeding began after nursing her own children, then became very active in the Abington Nursing Mother’s Advisory Council for 5+ years. She worked as the co-coordinator as well as counseling moms who call the breastfeeding helpline in need of advice. She has a fabulous husband and three fabulous children, Liah, Mya and Daniel. If you have any ideas for classes that might interest new families, give us a call and ask for Jen!
